for artists and photographers interested in birds of prey – all year round indoor location with trained birds
Art & photography opportunities
The indoor 'Owlery' at West of England Falconry, just 3½ miles from the centre of Bath, offers great opportunities for professional and amateur artists, photographers and videographers to study and create portraits of our resident owl family (see our 'Owl Encounters' page for owls currently in residence) and of our working Harris Hawks.
We have an spacious flying arena (known as a 'hacking pen') where owls can fly free and a separate area where tethered birds can be studied, drawn painted and photographed from numerous angles whilst they rest on bow perches. Some of our owls will also fly-to-the-glove in the hacking pen which offers a great opportunity for close-up video in additon to dramatic still photography.
Individuals and groups of all ages are welcome, please contact us to discuss your requirements and to book your visit*.
*All our birds all have their own individual, exercise, feeding and, in the case of our Harris Hawks, working regimes. If you would like to work with a particular bird in our collection we will advise you about availability.
Visits are strictly by appointment and CCTV is in operation at all times.
The original works of art featured on this page are by West of England Falconry volunteer and 'artist-in-residence' Naomi Johns (www.facebook.com/naomijohnsartist).
